I think perhaps GB you may have misinterpreted the meaning of this quote. (Apologies if you haven't). I'm 'assuming' you have interpreted it in a religious context, in that a man killing himself destro ...[text shortened]... m experience, suicide in more often than not a desperate act from an individual overwhelmed by life.
GD, thanks for weighing in. Yes, we agree that Chesterton's point of view was not from within "a religious context"
but rather from his sense of morality which is generally applicable to the entire human race. ~GB

Though professional counsel and intervention is available for many men and women with health insurance who may be contemplating suicide.

Why are we so ready to judge people for making decisions we don't know the full meaning of?
Well put.

Chesterton also said:

"Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese."

It's up to each individual to "judge" themselves as these three authors have done and then published their points of view
as you have done here on this internet public forum.
I share their points of view.
What's up grampy Bobby, this thread not about you anymore?

I notice you've tried dropping a number of intermittent "hankies" to see if someone will pick one up and you've been ignored. Now, in an excrutiating display of desperation and hubris, you, albeit tip-toeingly carefully, wheel out the "suicide" card again.

I wonder how far your cronies will come down this road to rescue you this time. Not far by the looks of it.

We don't always understand each other or each other's reasons or actions - we are not all rational beings.

And people in the depths of despair may not always have it in them to seek professional counsel or intervention.

You're right. Help may not always be there when you need it.
