You are still asking after several decades: why did he commit suicide? Have you considered - at any point during those decades - that the answer is most likely depression and mental illness?
in context refers to this family which is "twice removed" from mine
,i.e. the question is theirs not mine..

Originally posted by Grampy BobbyThe point is of course, such an occurrence can happen in 'any' family and the question can easily be our own. Experience has taught me that suicidal thought 'can' be present in people who give no outward sign what they are going through internally. We might like to distance ourselves from suicide and think it happens to people far removed from ourselves, but despair or mental health issues can happen to anyone.

Originally posted by Grampy BobbyLike I said. "Mental illness" is almost certainly the answer. Have they really gone "several decades" wondering whether it wasn't because of mental illness?

I mean, I know of millions of people who have committed suicide and I'm pretty sure that thousands of them would be within a few places removed from me personally. Perhaps I should mention them all in order to underline my opinion that suicide is not an insult to anyone.

What it says about me is that I don't believe I can make myself immortal by believing in a supernatural being and I see such ideas as being entirely superstitious. There is no better vocabulary item to express my perspective.
Didn't you recently declare yourself to be a person who believes in calling things how you see them regardless of whether it makes oth ...[text shortened]... t]. In light of this, I don't understand why you don't see the same principle behind my candour.

Indeed, you said it on this thread: "I've always found in life that speaking as one finds is the best way forward. Perhaps the direct approach is uncomfortable for some?" As I said at the time, if this is the philosophy of forum participation you profess, do you recognize it and respect it in others?
Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

Let me hold up a mirror for a moment. Is your labelling of my expression of my belief as "denigrating" someone else a sign that you are unable or unwilling to respect my perspective and the reason for my word choice?
Originally posted by FMFIt means you were offensive and disrespectful to another's beliefs.

And no, I'm not playing your pretend cross-examination game.

It means you were offensive and disrespectful to another's beliefs.
