Yes.
A gigantic solar flare did hit Earth dead on in 1859, check out The Carrington Event.

I imagine today it would knock out all electronics and we'd be a step out of the dark ages again.

The radiation levels are not like the workers who had to go into Chernobyl, Like the Van Allen belt, is not a total sphere around Earth, it is a belt which means you can avoid it by just aiming the spacecraft to skirt it. And the radiation on the moon or in space can be a problem for long term visits like ISS but a few hours or a day on the moon is not dangerou ...[text shortened]... em miss Earth and so most of them would miss a craft going to Mars. Big deal if it DOES hit however.
The ISS is within earth's orbit safely under the earth's magnetic field. The moon is not. Explain why a trip to Mars is dangerous but to the moon is not? Neither has protection from cosmic radiation.

Are long term stays at the moon dangerous because of length of exposure? How long can a person be on the moon without getting gut cancer? Will they have to stay just long enough to do repairs and go home?

And that is within earth's magnetic field. Just think what that could do in space outside earth's magnetic field in a thin space craft.

Then you are a denier that a film exists that Buzz said existed because part of it was animated/fake. You said you don't know.

How long can people be on the moon without getting gut cancer from cosmic radiation? Can't I ask that question without you childishly calling me a moon landing denier? It is a reasonable question. Wouldn't you like to know?

You have not seen mirrors on the moon either. Does that mean you don't know they are on the moon? It is a fair question.

Buzz is 93 years old despite this:

I am asking a legitimate question here. How much exposure is too much? And how did Buzz live for so long? Michael Collins died of cancer, but he was 90.

How many astronauts have died from radiation poisoning even though they have been in space in the ISS for months? Also why did the Apollo crew not die from radiation? I assume you can't understand the idea that for instance the Allen belts are not that big a deal if you transverse it at 25,000 miles an hour or 7 miles per second?
Are you trying to say there are no astronauts in space or what? They have proven they can live in space for months on end, the proof is in the pudding.
What is your agenda here?
The belt is about 3 to 5000 miles deep so at 25Kph, that would be about 10 minutes traversing it anyway. Why do you think that is a big deal?
I gather you don't trust google to tell you about death rate from radiation so you ask us here so you can prove your superiority. Why don't you just google your questions instead of asking a technician?

Once again the ISS is irrelevant. It is not outside the earth's magnetic field.

It is not my claim and you know it.
I got it from the Reuters article I posted several times on this forum. It is Buzz Adrin's claim according to Reuters.
STOP LYING!

It is the edge of the earth's magnetic field where the radiation is held away from anything in low orbit. The ISS is safely away from the VAB. Anything in low orbit is and the ISS is in low orbit.

sonhouse claims he used to work for NASA, but his ignorance on this issue makes me doubt his honesty.
