yes but you seem incapable of it although you are present.

JosephW "needs" to do no such thing.

He has quoted the Bible, which stands on its own and speaks for itself.

To help the reader to understand, here is a more recent translation. They all say the same thing but this may be expressed more accessibly for some.

It's also useful not to take an isolated verse out of context but to read the surrounding verses so that one can get the full meaning and intention.

During the course of this thread, and in its title, divegeester is insisting that JosephW somehow "used" the Bible to "insult" him. It seems not to occur to him that the Bible in itself cannot insult a person. What it does do is teach.

Divegeester makes much of the fact that he is a Christian, but reading through his posts he seems to believe that this means he is beyond criticism.

Not so. None of us is beyond criticism. None of us is perfect. It is an act of charity to bring each other back to what the Bible actually says, and the more usual Christian response is to read the passage in context and prayerfully, while examining one's conscience.

Or does Divegeester believe he has nothing further to learn?

I have asked him repeatedly how he thought the verse applied to divegeester. He may never explain, I suppose. Do you personally think he put the verse to good/correct use on that thread on the General Forum?

Do you think divegeester's quip to Wolfgang59 on that thread rightly deserved a retort citing James 4:4?

Can you not read? Or are you just refusing to understand?

Oh, and before you blow this all off on divegeester, it fully applies to you as well.

The word of God is a two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12) - some swordsmen are skilled and others wave it around above their heads.

Read what? Point me to what you wrote that you think I should have read and I will read it again. Paste it into your reply to this. Here is the question again: what [does the passage mean and how do you think it applies to divegeester?

I would go far further into the reasons why they can't see how this applies directly to what they've been doing for months now in the General Forum. It's a textbook case of neurosis, plain and simple.

It's not a retort. It's a helpful reminder.

So you don't want to answer the question, I see. 😉

I answered it with an admirable illustration, appealing to the intellect and the imagination alike. No i don't think you do see, infact i think you are being squished by the forum.

If you swap quips with Wolfgang59 on the General Forum, would josephw be justified in "warning" you with James 4:4? Do Bible citations such as this belong in General Forum banter? Is this how the Bible is supposed to be used?

Yes indeed and once again the hypersensitivity to his own sensibilities and the neurosis of divesgeester become apparent. Clearly he sees himself above counsel, Biblical verses don't apply to him, just to everyone else. He needs no knowledge, he is the complete embodiment of wisdom and knowledge.

As I said, it's more what both of you two have been doing in the General Forum over the last few months. Persecuting people all because they disagree with you and aren't bashful about saying so. Your neuroses leave you no choice but to see this kind of disagreement as a personal attack. And that is why everything gets blown up into a huge deal with you two.

How do you think josephw's use of the Bible verse in question applied to divegeester. He won't say. Why doesn't it apply to every Christian who swaps quips with the non-Christian Wolfgang59 on the Debates Forum?
