Edit: Bah, I did learn something. It appears that this depends on where you are in the world, as different countries have different standards for this.
It appears that in the US, at least, a standard shot glass holds 1.5 ounces. Another problem is that what a place calls a shot also differs, but it is usually either 1.0 ounces or 1.5 ounces. This also means that a double is either 2.0 ounces or 3.0 ounces. I have a couple of measuring shot glasses that hold 4.5 ounces to the rim, with markings for each half-ounce. I call these glasses "dial-a-drunk" since you can measure out exactly how drunk you wanna get, instead of leaving it to semi-chance.
