Look at the group winners and their points, anyone with higher or
equal points than a group winner should go to the next round.

unbalanced that group. This effectively means that the winner of that
group will have fewer points. I'd like to them (Chris & Russ) to agree
to your idea because it will give me a chance too but .....

I agree that it would be nice if some of the lesser rated players could
progress beyond the first round. So how about we extend the
tournament by instigating 4 rounds:
The top two from each group in round 1 go through to Round 2.
Round 2 has 10 groups of 5, the top two going through to round 3.
Round 3 has 2 groups of 5, the top two going through to round 4.
Round 4 has a single group of four players, winner takes all.
Just a thought,
Rich

they have a greater chance of staying in it longer. No one like to
loose, and with the way the groups are set up it is quite obvious who
should win them. The only things that can throw a spanner in the
works are timeouts and newer players who do not have a rating level
to their ability yet.
This does not need to apply to every tournament, but I am sure we
could have one where only the bottom player in the group dropped
out - this gives everyone in the group something to play for and a
much longer tournament that a lot more people will get enjoyment out
of. If people do not think that is there cup of team, then they can
enter a tournament where only the winner of the froup goes through.
Cheers

As it looks now, it could be for example 29 players going to the next
round, how do you do the paring? Bets would be to add some more
players!
The same way it is in track & field tournaments, the winners and the
best times goes to the next round! A lot more interesting for the less
good players like me!!
Sincerely,
