Actually, true. The question asked what the most complex structure was in the known universe. The 'known universe' cannot be 'in' itself.

That's the exact crux of the problem! The question asked for the most complex structure within the group. You cannot say the group itself is the most complex without saying the group is within itself (a nonsensical statement).
