In truth, it was a poor vote. It really needed an "other" option, to show that people aren't very happy with either proposed system.

I agree. Nevertheless, only two alternatives were given (probably because every other option would require major rework), and Russ followed the majority, which is fine.

Just a side remark: the majority can be wrong too. History is full of examples. Some are tragical, especially when the scientific option iwas in the minority.
