We live on a planet with limited resources and a finely tuned climate system. We continue our industrial and financial progress at an incredible rate. Our population looks set to be 9 billion before too long.

The time will come when capitalism will break down and the politics of profit , short term , unabated progress and consumerism will be challenged by the sheer physical limitations of our planet.

So what will man do? Will we be subject to environmental crisis and starvation , wars over oil , water , minerals before we adopt a common sense plan , or will we look ahead and see the juggernaut that WILL come our way if we continue as we are.

How many cars , computers and restuarants can this earth sustain? Who will get them? How will we decide who can have jacuzzis in their house and who can't? Will we say that families cannot have more than 2 children?

Will common sense prevail or will we just carry on and walk into the path of the juggernaut? Will we have to go to the very brink before we re-think how we live our lives in this world?

The prognosis is not good. Greed and short term profits often prevail. The quiet voice of common sense is not often heard.

The Conservatives have solutions to all these things:

1. Outlaw abortions

2. Continue to neglect the enviornment because it may harm the economy.

3. Promote needless spending on things of dubious necessity because it stimulates the economy.

4. Promote the need for an over bloated military machine

5. Send ALL blue collar jobs to China, so they can pollute the planet with industrial waste even faster.

...because we don't want those damn tree hugging LIBERALS keeping the planet clean and able to sustain life!! 😠

Liberals have a solution to these problems:

1. Support abortions no matter the circumstance or cost

2. Support the gay lifestyle. After all, they don't reproduce do they?

3. Continue to stand against capital punishmet. After all, murders kill people and as such are valuable to the cause.

4. Support euthenasia and sneak provisions for it in the future via
health care legislation.

In short, continue to promote the culture of death.

common sense has not prevailed thus far. What makes you think it will in the future?

The other things, ridiculous as they are, at least play on stereotypes of conservatives.

#3 is just odd. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were describing the Obama stimulus package and cash for clunkers.

Of course, worst of all is that the sun will someday enlarge and engulf the Earth!! 😲

I say we can live for today and each pursue a degree of happiness or we can make ourselves miserable by trying to save a world that is no saveable. Don't get me wrong, I think there is value in preparing for the future and we should be responsible as much as we can in "saving the world" but there is a balance. In addition, I think we give ourselves to much credit as being capable of "detroying" this planet and ourselves. The earth has shown itself to be resiliant as has the human race.

Yes it is. Maybe finely balanced is a better phrase? Climatologists generally agree that our climate is more susceptible to fluctuations than was previously thought.
