Empathy.
'The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.'
I think i am kept ethical because of my ability to empathize with others (human and animal). As long as i can put myself in someone else's shoes i will behave in a way that isn't unkind or immoral. (*Yes, i know animals don't wear shoes).

A person has to be in a very distressed or disturbed state to consider, attempt or succeed in taking their own life. It is always tragic, sometimes bewildering, never an insult to family and friends. They may very well feel hurt and angry by such a death of a love one, but have never yet dealt with a suicide where the motivation was to insult anybody.
"Suicide" with rare exceptions is an insult to your family and friends (and in an indirect sense to the rest of the human race).
