Someone must have forgotten to inform him the worth of whites light colored bishop. (GP34 would be horrified)

relieve the pin.

The simplest answer.

A fair attack no doubt - white see's that if f6, Bxf6..Qxf6 and he forks the queen and bishop...

...black must have other plans... u betcha :)

14. Bg5xf6 Rf8xf6 15. Nc3e4

Still a deadly fork...

15... Rf6xf3 16. Ne4xc5

...attacks a 2nd piece - but gives black plenty of rope

16... Be6d5

and now...we can see that all of blacks pieces are capable of attacking the f3 square...with but one move each.

...f3....

threatens mate - buys a rook.
